Case Study:

Peptide Salt Selection & Characterization

Peptide modification via salts is a way to change to properties of the API to make it more advantageous to the desired release profile. If a longer release profile is desired, a hydrophobic salt can increase the dissolution time of an API. If better water solubility is desired, a hydrophilic salt can be added. Salts can be used to improve the stability, bioavailability, and dissolution properties of the target API.

  • Salts improve bioavailability, stability, manufacturability, and patient compliance

  • Peptide counter ions significantly affect the pharmaceutical properties of a drug for small molecules, peptides and proteins

  • Peptide salts were selected to alter the dissolution profile of the target molecule
