Asbestos is a well-recognized health hazard. It is a mineral known for its carcinogenic properties (which are comprised of flexible fibers) that are resistant to heat, electricity, and corrosion. Breathing in or swallowing asbestos can lead to trapped fibers in the body which can lead to lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Many buildings and products constructed before the 1980s contain asbestos. Unfortunately, people across the country are still being exposed to this deadly carcinogen, even if they don’t live or work in an older building.
