In April 2024, the US EPA finalized the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR), establishing Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for PFOA, PFOS, and four additional PFAS. This regulation introduces complex requirements that have never been seen before in water management, such as the Hazard Index MCL and Trigger Levels. Use of the Trigger Levels is required to determine if a system can transition to a reduced monitoring schedule. Regulators are voicing concerns that certain laboratories may not be able to provide the necessary reporting limits for systems to accurately calculate their Trigger Levels.
During this presentation, participants will learn how these elements interact and are calculated, the timeline for the implementation of initial monitoring and enforcement of the MCLs, and how UCMR 5 data can assist in the initial monitoring process.
